Fishing Report
October 2008
October turned out to be great for BIG trout!!
October was an awesome month for big trout and big reds. Also caught were a couple of monster flounder. Fished both south and north of town during the month of October, fish were shallow more than deep. Soft plastics (tails) worked best on 1/16th ounce jig heads. Caught a few on top, but tails ruled the water in my opinion.
The highlight of October was a 9 pound trout, along with a number of 5-7 pounders. As of this writing November has also produced some big trout and reds.
We should have a good fishing report for November and hopefully December and January will produce some duck hunting reports to go along with them.

FISHING REPORT FOR OCTOBER 2008
By Captain Jeff Turner
October 9, 2008----Fished northeast flats in the weather station area, water was beautiful but the fish were not there. So we headed further north about five miles still beautiful water but few scattered fish; moved the third time further north and west and you know what they say the third time was a charm. Caught many fish with limits of reds and trout; back at my boat slip by noon....trout were in about four and one-half feet of water with the reds being a little shallower no wall hangers but a very respectful box of fish great day with wonderful weather.
October 10, 2008----Fished the same area north as we ended on the previous day. Same results; the fish both trout and reds were still holding in the same area the weather was a little bit different with three different winds directions for the morning; fish were not as aggressive. Everyone still caught there limits of both reds and trout good eating sized fish. Returned to the dock at about 1:00 p.m. Wonderful day!
October 11, 2008----Fished the same general area north as the day before maybe a little further north. The fish were still holding in the three to four and a half foot depth range in sand holes and in the grass. Everyone had their limits of both redfish and trout by ten a.m. I personally caught and released two trout with one measuring twenty-six plus inches and second measuring in excess of twenty-eight plus inches....quality brood stock. Returned to the dock at about twelve, noon....Beautiful Port Mansfield chamber of commerce day! Wonderful day with abundant quality fish! Trucha Grande!
All fish were caught drifting and using popping corks and Harbor Bait & Tackle brand shrimp.
