JULY 2008

Fishing Report

Thursday

July 3, 2008

Fished with Tina and her 15 year old niece, Morgan who entered in the STAR Teens in hopes to winning a scholarship; specific to the Flounder division.  We started this first day for trout and after several deep water drifts had 15 nice trout in the box.  We then went for flounder and had two that kept following her bait, but wouldn’t bite.  We were rained out and headed in relatively early.

Soft plastics in red and white and pumpkinseed / chartreuse on 1/8th ounce jig.

Friday

July 4, 2008

Fished north again and made one drift over the same area as the day before but the trout were not quite as thick as the day before so we decided to go for the flounder.  Dropped Tina and Morgan off and after about 45 minutes they found the flounder and lots of them.  Several misses and some that just wouldn’t bite no matter what you put on their head.  You had to step on them to get them to move.  Anyway they landed four nice ones and Morgan entered one for the STAR Teens.  Last update had her bumped off the board, but she had a blast catching them.

Fished north again and went for redfish early.  Found the reds in shallow water and was unable to fish for flounder as the weather was bad.  We were running from storms most of the day.

Soft plastics all three days with stormy / rainy weather all around.

Friday

July 11, 2008

Fished north and had good trout on some deep drifts over grass, had one a little over 25 inches.  Headed shallow for reds and found plenty.

Saturday

July 12, 2008

Started out fishing deep for trout and found a few.  The sun came up so we decided to do some sight casting from the center console.  Capt Robert showed up and took one of my guys and I had the other.  The reds were in small pods, and sight casting was easy.  The clouds interrupted us after about an hour.  Headed for shallow water and ended with some nice trout and a few more reds

Sunday

July 13, 2008

Found a current line and found trout around in deep water.  We were able to wade it, but it was pretty deep.  After out trout we headed for shallow water and found our reds.  We did manage one 24 inch trout from the shallows.

Friday

July 18, 2008

Fished south in shallow water, found a few reds and then we headed north.  Found a few trout up north.  Found reds up shallow in the white sand.  This was a slow, but consistent day.

Saturday

July 19, 2008

Fished north on a grass line and had lots of keeper trout ranging from 16 – 22 inches.  We had one trout at 25 inches (released).  Today was fun fishing with friends.  We did not catch one red.

Sunday

July 20, 2008

Same area as the day before but the bite wasn’t quite as good.  It seemed the fish starting biting more later in the day than at first light.  Anyway had a fair day with one 22 inch trout released.  Just shy of a limit.

Monday

July 21, 2008

Started south fishing shallow with a couple of small reds, nothing spectacular.  Headed north and landed a couple of trout and two flounder.  Just a fair day.

Tuesday

July 22, 2008

Fished north drifting over deep grass with breezy conditions.  Only had four nice trout in the box before we had to head in.

Wednesday

July 23, 2008

HURRICANE DOLLY made landfall.

Most fish caught on soft plastics with a few on top.
